SkyRadar’s SONAR extension module brings advanced acoustic sensing into the radar training environment. At the core of the system lies range configuration. Users can set the desired detection range—from short distances to over 10 meters. FreeScopes visualizes these settings directly on the A-Scope display, helping learners correlate physical settings with signal reflections. The software also highlights the associated recording time, which scales with the selected range and offers a window into the physics of sound propagation in air.

Another key element is sampling speed control. The video shows how frame rate can be increased to enhance responsiveness—but also illustrates its trade-offs. High sampling rates reduce the time available to capture returning echoes from distant objects, which may result in partial or frozen readings. This introduces an intuitive understanding of signal timing and bandwidth constraints.

Gain control is central to signal clarity. The admin panel provides several pre-defined gain ranges, allowing the SONAR to adjust for strong or weak reflections. Users can directly observe how different gain settings affect signal amplitude, bringing to light the importance of balancing sensitivity with signal integrity.

Going a step further, the system supports Time Varying Gain (TVG). With this feature, users can fine-tune amplification across different distances—boosting signals from faraway targets while reducing saturation in near-field data. This is especially useful in cluttered or high-dynamic-range environments, and FreeScopes offers immediate visual feedback on how these adjustments reshape the radar signature.

All of these features are embedded in a clean, browser-based admin panel that connects directly to FreeScopes. The result is a system that not only captures the data but makes it explorable and teachable. Whether you're adjusting parameters, moving targets, or tuning signal processing, you see the effects unfold instantly.
